Earned from reading, workbook, chores, and one perfect no-screen day.
The Problem

Every parent knows the pattern.

You buy a chore chart. The first two weeks are great. Then it fades. Then the kids are back on YouTube and you're back to bribing.

01

Chore charts die in two weeks.

Stickers and points feel made up to kids. There's nothing real on the other end. Of course it stops working.

02

Allowance apps just track money.

BusyKid, Greenlight — they're banks. They don't reward reading, kindness, or finishing a workbook. They reward existing.

03

"Just earn screen time."

Trading work for more screens is a losing trade. You wanted them off the screen. Now they're more dependent on it.

How it works

Three pillars. One ecosystem your kids actually want to live in.

Every coin earned. Every coin spent. Every piece of art saved. Logged, audited, and visible to you in real time.

01 The Wallet

Earn every day.

Kids earn coins for the work that matters to you. Reading, chores, character moments, no-screen days, workbook pages.

  • Daily check-in with first-of-day bonus
  • Word of the Day plus Math Challenge per grade
  • Required-task gate locks chore coins until reading is done
  • Live audit log — parents see every coin
  • 6 AM rollover so kids can't midnight-game it
02 The Store

You stock it.

You decide what's in the store. Starbucks. Boba. Robux. Makeup. Amazon finds. Their saved coins exit here.

  • Free rewards — skip a chore, pick dinner
  • Local treats with the addresses you set
  • Digital rewards, parent-approved
  • Limited-stock surprise drops
  • Weekly winners unlock shopping privileges
03 The Portfolio

Proof of summer.

Every kid has their own gallery. Art, writing, code, photos, Canva designs. Doing a piece pays. Submitting it pays more.

  • Per-kid gallery with photo and writeup
  • Thirteen categories from painting to code
  • Public share link — grandma sees it without an account
  • Export to PDF for an end-of-summer keepsake
  • Parents can recategorize any piece anytime
See it in action

The product, running in a real family right now.

Every detail

Details a real parent would build.

Because a real parent did. Every one of these was added because one of seven kids tried to game it.

01

Weekly competition

Top three earners every Sunday unlock store privileges. First place gets a bonus. Live podium slide for the family TV.

02

Anti-gaming, by design

6 AM day rollover. Idempotent claims. One-per-day daily challenges. Audit log on every coin. Kids will try. They won't win.

03

Word, Math, and Story per kid

K through 9th grade content baked in. Daily rotating. Worth coins. Kids actually do it because the coin is real.

04

Toddler mode included

Preschoolers see feelings check-ins, daily rotating activities, and simple age-appropriate rewards. No chores required. They earn too.

05

Required tasks gate (optional)

Flip it on: kids can't earn chore coins until they finish reading and workbook. Flip it off: total flexibility. Your call.

06

Live parent audit log

Every earn. Every redeem. Every removed coin with the reason. CSV export. No more "I already did it, I swear" arguments.

07

An in-app assistant

Kids can ask questions and get age-appropriate answers about how to earn, what's in the store, and off-screen ideas.

08

Off-screen ideas library

Thirty-five plus categorized alternatives to YouTube. Bored? Tap an idea, do it, claim the coin.

I built this because I have seven kids and I was losing the screen-time war. I tried Class Dojo, BusyKid, three chore charts, and a star sticker poster. None of it stuck. So I built what I actually needed — a real economy where my kids earn, save, and spend on things they actually want. It has been running in my house for a year. They never log out.

Common questions

You're not the first to ask.

Is this just a chore app with extra steps?
No. Chore apps are point trackers. FamCoins is a closed-loop economy — earned coins exit when the kid redeems them in a store you control. That's the difference between a sticker chart and an actual bank.
What ages does this work for?
Built and tested with kids ages three to fourteen. Toddler mode (no required tasks, feelings check-ins, simple activities) for ages three to six. Standard mode for seven and up. Word and Math content scales by grade automatically from kindergarten through ninth.
Do my kids need their own phone?
No. The most common setup is one family iPad or Chromebook the kids share. They tap their name to log in (no password — just a kid PIN if you want). Parent approves earns from your phone. Works equally well on a shared device.
Is this iOS, Android, or web?
All three. We're shipping a true PWA (works on any browser, installable from Safari and Chrome) plus native wrappers in the iOS App Store and Google Play. Same data syncs across all of them. We refuse to lock anyone out — homeschool families are split evenly between Apple and Android.
How does the real store actually work?
You stock it. You're the bank. Examples from beta: twelve coins buys a Starbucks (parent buys it), eight coins buys thirty minutes of device time (parent honors it), twenty-two coins buys four hundred Robux (parent purchases on demand). The app handles the ledger and audit log. You handle the fulfillment. Coins never convert to dollars — that's a legal and banking nightmare we won't touch.
What about screen time?
The app is intentionally fast — kids open it, tap their thing, close it. Median session is under ninety seconds. Yes, you're trading some screen time for the app to drive other off-screen activity: reading, chores, art. Beta families consistently report net-less screen time within two weeks.
What if I have one kid?
It works for one. You'll miss the sibling competition mechanic — which is honestly half the magic. If you have one kid and you're not fully sold, a combination of Greenlight and Habitica will probably serve you better. We'd rather tell you that up front.
When does it launch?
Public launch is targeted for August 2026. Closed beta opens July 2026 for the first twenty waitlist families (free for ninety days in exchange for feedback). Founder pricing locks in for the first one hundred. Sign up today and we'll keep you posted.
